I have to talk BCS. This college football thing drives me crazy. The reason it drives me so nuts is that
itís so screwed up, but I love college football so much!
I think it sucks that TCU has to join the Big East to have
any shot at a National Championship.
I think it sucks that the poor Boise State kicker chunked those two
kicks. I really wanted to see the
Broncos complete another undefeated season. I also think it sucks that Boise State jumped to the
Mountain West to be with TCU, Utah and Brigham Young, making a legit conference
(better than the Big Least), only to see those three schoolís bolt for greener
Why canít they have a playoff? Itís such a load of crap that they canít figure out a way to
have a 8-team playoff, and keep the bowl system pretty much in tact. Whatís so funny, is that the NCAA
presidentís are connected to the BCS out of sheer greed. Itís a money grab. But, donít you think they could use a
playoff to make even more $$?
The four big bowls (Fiesta, Rose, Orange, Sugar) can be the
quarterfinals. Add a semifinal
round, then the National Championship the week before the Super Bowl.
All those other lame Ticket City-Kraft Fight Hunger-BBVA
Compass Bowlís can still go on with any team that can reach .500 in a season.
Thereís about 120 football teamís playing at the D-I level
(I know itís called FBS, thatís crap too..). Re-mold them into 8-10 super-conferences. Each Conference has a championship game
that serves as an elimination round to get into the playoffs. If you have 8 conferences, walla, your
8-team playoffs. If you have
9-10 conferences, you take the 8 ranked the highest using a BCS style raking
How does UConn get a BCS bowl, and Boise St. is left in the
MAACO Las Vegas Bowl. Virginia
Teach, a team Boise St. beat o start the season, gets a big-time pay out from
the Orange Bowl.
Isnít this where the real conspiracy lies? The reason Boise St. isnít going o a
big bowl, is the NCAA doesnít want hem to get the multi-million dollar
payout. Because that money would
allow Boise St. to continue to compete through better facilities and more
expansive recruiting and marketing (i.e., advervising).
How about NDSU!
Nice run through a real college football playoff system. They will have their work cut out for
them next week on the red turf at Eastern WashingtonÖ (really.. red turf.. check
it out..click here).
Whatís up with the new coach for the Gophers? This guy wasnít on anyoneís radar, now
heís in charge of re-exciting the maroon and gold fanbase? To say this is a questionable hire is
Jerry Kill has spent the last 10 years at Northern and
Southern Illinois. Really? Thatís the best the U can do? Thatís disappointing.
Now that I have that off my chest, I wish him well. Iíd LOVE to see the Gophers return to
respectability, at least. Hoping
for their 1st Big-10 title since 1967 maybe reaching a bit.
I think the
Vikings turnaround lately IS a direct reflection of Leslie Frazier. Iíve read and heard a lot of good
things about him over the years from State and National media, and It would
serve the Vikings well to put him on permanently.
I bet Frazier was kinda happy to have Brett Farve leave the
game so early Sunday. I know, you
never want to wish injury on anyone, but, that is the ONLY was Farve was coming
out of the lineup. Now, Tavaris
Jackson can get one final look, and maybe Joe Webb can get a peek. Several friends of mine, including Dr.
Dan himself, is big on Webb.
