Spring had definitely arrived and baseball season is finally
If you’ve taken a close look along Hwy. 78 in Perham, the
old grandstand at Krueger Field is GONE! A temporary backstop is going up soon and the area
where the old grandstand was will be leveled off.
Now comes the next step. Building the new grandstand.
While temporary seating should be in place for the
Yellowjacket season opener on April 10 against Park Rapids, the plans are well
underway to build a new grandstand at the ball park.
BUT, that grandstand won’t go up without some funding. That’s where YOU come in. A fundraising effort is underway to
construct a new grandstand with the hopes of having it up and ready by
mid-summer. The total estimated
cost for he project is around $300,000.
The committee that has been meeting to manage the project is hoping to
bring that number down with possible donations in materials and/or labor for
So far, about $70,000 has been pledged, led by donations by
the City of Perham and the Perham Athletic Association, by use of funds that
had been generated from the State Amateur Baseball Tournament held at Krueger
Field in 1995.
Several community members who have been involved in the
grandstand project are contacting businesses and individuals for a fundraising
drive over the next couple of weeks.
Hopefully you will be contacted in person by somebody regarding a
BUT, if you haven’t been contacted, and are interested in
making a pledge, please e-mail: Fred Sailer at firstname.lastname@example.org, Larry Mollins at email@example.com, or John George at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The new grandstand will be wheel chair accessible and will
seat 450 people, featuring a full roof and a top-row “plaza”, where you can
stand with a counter in front of you to hold your food, drinks or scorebook.
You can donate any amount. From $50 to $500 to $5,000. As the project unfolds each contributor will be recognized
on our “Wall of Fame” at Krueger
Field. If you have a construction
skill your contribution could be in the form of labor. Pledges may be made over a 3-year
period for individuals and over 5-year period for businesses.
